Let's Create

IBM

A motion system & series of films that made information move smarter.

Context

IBM was preparing to launch its largest initiative in over a decade. The “Let’s Create” campaign represented a major strategic shift for the company, bringing together cloud, AI, and open collaboration under a shared vision. The challenge wasn't the ambition of the idea, it was ensuring audiences could understand it. With messaging carrying much of the campaign's weight, motion needed to help information communicate as intelligently as the ideas themselves.

Outcome

We developed a motion language, system, and series of brand films that made information move smarter. The foundational motion system work turned dense messaging into a clear, fast-moving experience where ideas could build on one another instead of competing for attention. The result was a series of brand films capable of saying a lot in very little time, allowing the campaign to carry the weight of its ideas without feeling weighed down by them.

Motion System & Process

The system began with communication. With messaging carrying much of the campaign's weight, typography became the primary storytelling device, requiring a motion language that could communicate ambitious ideas with speed, rhythm, and clarity across every execution.

From the earliest stages, we explored how typography could scale across a series of films while maintaining a consistent voice.
With the typographic framework established, it expanded across a series of brand films, each built around a different story but guided by the same motion language. The system allowed messaging to scale naturally across a wide range of narratives without losing its rhythm or connection to the broader campaign.

By treating typography as the primary storytelling device, every film became another expression of the same communication system. Different messages, one recognizable way of moving information.
The motion system was supported by a broader library of storytelling elements that reinforced the campaign's messaging.

Iconography, the evolving IBM 8-Bar logo, and supporting graphic assets were designed to work alongside the typography, giving teams additional tools for communicating complex ideas without competing with the story itself.
